The Beauty of Bamboo

"Notice that the stiffest tree is most easily cracked, while the bamboo or willow survives by bending with the wind." - Bruce Lee

Bamboo is a fast growing plant species found in many parts of the world. It is a favoured wood source as it is a renewable, sustainable and extremely versatile product. It has many, many uses... for example, I enjoy using crisp and tender bamboo shoots in my stir fry! Yum!

In the design industry, bamboo has great diversity and adds an eco-style uniqueness to any space. Here are a few examples of it's many innovative uses...

Bamboo flooring is made from bamboo stalks, and is extremely strong, durable and has a beautiful grain finish. It is considered one of the most environmentally friendly building materials on the market today, found at Bamboo Direct based out of North Vancouver. It is an excellent eco-alternative to traditional hardwood flooring, and looks very sharp.

I love the eco-conscious designs from Bambu, which has a plethora of products made from bamboo....

The 100% organically grown bamboo absorbs little moisture which makes it a favourable choice of material for all types of kitchen products. Bamboo items, such as this cutting board, can be found at Bella Vita... a great store located all over British Columbia.

Bamboo furniture, baskets, poles and the like can be found in Victoria's Chinatown, which is the oldest in Canada. My favourite is the Chinatown Trading Co Ltd, which is a veritable bazaar of many things bamboo.

There are many companies that produce gorgeous bamboo eco-style furniture, such as this bamboo constructed chair found at bamboofurniture.com . I love the unique pattern of the bamboo grain...

A beautiful bamboo kitchen also from bamboofurniture.com . Wow! Shows how limitless the possibilities are for eco-friendly bamboo...

Interestingly, bamboo is a Chinese symbol of long life, while in India it is a symbol of friendship....

Hail to the noble bamboo... such beauty!
