From Swab to Art

Ok, so is this like really cool, or like really weird, or like really narcissistic...
Portraits made from your own DNA. Art from Within (as it is called) found at DNA11

"The process begins with the DNA being collected using a patented, non-invasive technique: using a special swab (much like a Q-tip) to painlessly collect cheek cells (Ok....). The DNA is extracted to create a unique genetic fingerprint, using a technique that takes advantage of the variation that occurs among the DNA sequence of every individual. The DNA is then stained with a fluorescent dye and illuminated by UV light. A special camera captures the image, which is then digitally enhanced, cropped, color adjusted, adding colors and filter effects."

Sounds techy, but it sure results in a one-of-a-kind art piece. An heirloom perhaps... ??! I have to wonder what mine would look like.... is there such a thing as ugly DNA?

Great find! I love this idea, and could see our four 'prints' hanging in the hallway, or up the stairs. Very cool!

Great site, btw - nice to see another BC Blogger!
